The days are long, but the years are short.

These days I could even change that to the days are long, but the weeks are short.  My days feel excruciatingly slow and I try to just get through them without any incidents, without losing my temper, crying, or yelling, without forgetting anything, trying to get at least the bare minimum done around the house, and something fun or special to do with the girls.

Weeks, months and years are flying by though.  It is already time to register Gwendolyn for kindergarten, I have no idea how she is already almost 5 years old.  She only has two weeks of preschool left though it feels like she only started a couple weeks ago.  Tee-ball (t-ball?) practice has started, games start next week, the soccer season is half over already.  Maggie is potty training and saying words here and there (She started saying "Love you" or "looloo" this week), but she is still a baby to me.  I was looking at pictures for a couple years ago and last week and see how much Keary's hair is thinning and how obvious my silver streak has become (the lady who cuts my hair told me it looks like I have highlights so I hadn't been trying to cover it.  Sufficed to say, she was just blowing smoke up my butt.).

I know that part of my warped time perception is related to being a stay-at-home mom, and another part is related to how stressful thing things have been since Grandy's stroke and hospitalizations.  I remember my Pampaw telling me when I was seven or eight that when you get old and the older you get, the faster time seems to go by.  I don't think that he would have been referring to my nearing thirty as old or older though.  Maybe relative to my seven year old self though.

  1. Aw, that comic just made me a little sad! I guess the royal wedding has turned me into a sap ;)

  2. I pray that you are blessed this coming week with a supernatural peace and calm from God. That you will come up with those special moments for your girls, effortlessly. That you will find time and little ways to nurture yourself between all the nurturing you are doing for your family. My heart goes out to you. I KNOW the way you feel. I think all Mama's have been there. You are not alone.
    Love and Blessings,
    In Him,
    Lora

  3. Coming from the perspective of a mommy in her late 30's, I can relate to where you are right now. When I had my 4th child, I struggled just to get the basics done around the house and take care of my other three that were ages 3,2, and 1. You have my prayers.

"May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God." (Ephesians 19, NLT)

    Blessings,
    Melissa

  4. It does seem to fly by so fast. And how I see it is that with every passing year, that year is only a smaller percentage of our lives. Like a year for our almost 2-year-olds is half their life, but for us it is only about 3% (if you're around 31 like me). I wonder what my 104-year-old grandma thinks about time...

Thanks for stopping by our blog and praying for our friends. Enjoy your weekend.

  5. I love that comic strip! It does fly by fast. I like being reminded of that. It helps to stop and ponder and embrace the moments of this age -- whichever age they are at. My oldest is 12 1/2 and I have heard the next 7 years are like a bullet train. How can it be that they will speed up? But I believe "them" (I guess it is the parents who have gone before) because the last 12 1/1 have gone by pretty fast.
